The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a highly qualified and motivated attorney to join the Consumer Protection Division's Data Privacy and Security Team. This position will focus on enforcing Texas's privacy laws, including the Texas Data Privacy and Security Law (TDPSA). The OAG is a dynamic state agency with over 4,000 employees and offers excellent benefits and opportunities for professional growth.

Essential Position Functions:
- Conduct and supervise consumer protection investigations, including obtaining evidence and issuing civil investigative demands
- Litigate civil enforcement cases from start to finish, including taking and defending depositions, motion practice, and trial
- Research and analyze complex legal and factual matters related to specific cases
- Monitor privacy, cyber, and technology developments at the state and federal level
- Provide legal advice and assistance to clients and management
- Work collaboratively with team members to develop effective litigation and enforcement strategies
- Represent the OAG before trial and appellate courts
- Evaluate proposed and enacted federal and state statutes, rules, and court decisions to advance Texas's interests in data privacy and consumer protection
- Participate in rulemaking and responding to legislative inquiries
- Provide training to less experienced staff
- Maintain knowledge of legal principles and practices relevant to data privacy
- Participate in community outreach activities related to data privacy
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree (.)
- Minimum of 3 years of full-time experience in data privacy, privacy compliance, consumer protection, or commercial litigation
- Licensed as an attorney by the State Bar of Texas and in good standing
- Strong legal research, writing, and analysis skills
- Experience with technology, including word-processing, data analysis, and electronic discovery platforms
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make effective decisions
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional office environment
- Ability to provide excellent customer service
- Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space, and collaborate with coworkers in person (unless on approved leave)
- Ability to travel up to 15%

Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years of full-time experience in data privacy, consumer protection, privacy compliance, commercial litigation, or related fields
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, HIPAA, HITECH Act, and the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act
- Experience with complex litigation, jury trials, and motion practice
- Ability to work collaboratively within a larger organization
- Privacy-focused certifications, such as CIPP-US, CIPM, CIPT, or CDPP
