DESCRIPTION

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a highly qualified attorney to join their Data Privacy and Security Team in the Consumer Protection Division (CPD). This position is available in multiple locations including Houston, Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data privacy and consumer protection laws, and will be responsible for enforcing Texas's privacy laws, including the Texas Data Privacy and Security Law (TDPSA). This is a full-time position with a salary range of $8, - $10, per month.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Conduct and supervise consumer protection investigations
- Litigate civil enforcement cases from start to finish
- Research and analyze complex legal and factual matters
- Monitor privacy, cyber, and technology developments at the state and federal level
- Provide legal advice and assistance to clients and management
- Work collaboratively with team members to develop effective litigation and enforcement strategies
- Represent the OAG in state and federal trial and appellate courts
- Evaluate proposed and enacted federal and state statutes, rules, and court decisions
- Participate in rulemaking and respond to Texas Public Information Act requests
- Assist in responding to legislative inquiries related to consumer protection and data privacy
- Provide training to less experienced staff
- Maintain knowledge of legal principles and practices related to data privacy
- Participate in community outreach activities related to data privacy
- Perform other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- Licensed as an attorney by the State Bar of Texas
- Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
- 3+ years of full-time experience in data privacy, privacy compliance, consumer protection, or commercial litigation
- Strong legal research, writing, and analysis skills
- Experience with technology and electronic discovery platforms
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional office environment
- Ability to provide excellent customer service
- Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location and travel up to 15%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 8+ years of full-time experience in data privacy, consumer protection, privacy compliance, or commercial litigation
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act and federal privacy laws
- Experience with complex litigation, jury trials, and motion practice
- Certification in privacy-related fields such as CIPP-US, CIPM, CIPT, or CDPP
- Ability to work collaboratively within a larger organization
