The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights is seeking a passionate and experienced Staff Attorney to join its Technical Assistance Program. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of immigrant children and advance their rights and best interests. The Staff Attorney will provide case consultations, trainings, and resources to professionals working with immigrant children in child welfare and other state court systems, with the goal of improving outcomes for these vulnerable children. This position is open to applicants based anywhere in the United States, with a preference for those in cities where the Young Center has offices.

The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights is a national organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the rights and best interests of immigrant children in the United States. Through its various programs, including the flagship Child Advocate Program, the Young Center serves as the best interests representative for unaccompanied and separated immigrant children in federal custody. The organization also fights for systemic reform of the immigration system and provides resources and expertise to advocates and service providers working with immigrant children involved in child welfare and other state court systems.

Key Responsibilities:
- Consult with stakeholders from various disciplines and entities on resources and best practices for serving immigrant children involved in a child welfare system
- Review and interpret legal documents from the . immigration system and state child welfare systems to facilitate consultations
- Conduct research on state and federal law related to immigration, child welfare, and/or family law
- Draft legal analysis of complex issues at the intersection of immigration and child welfare law
- Provide support to parents in ICE custody regarding their rights with respect to the custody, care, and placement of their children
- Participate in internal and external working groups to develop strategies for technical assistance
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and organizations at the intersection of immigration and child welfare
- Capture accurate and timely data to inform reports and program metrics
- Actively engage with colleagues and supervisors in developing effective interdisciplinary advocacy strategies
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- Doctorate in law (.) and license to practice law
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in child welfare or family law and/or policy
- Strong legal analysis, negotiation, and mediation skills
- Effective communication skills and ability to liaise with various stakeholders, colleagues, and volunteers
- Excellent case management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and proactively address consultation needs
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Commitment to a culture of feedback and diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism principles
- Strong writing skills
- Aptitude and thoughtfulness in promoting child-centered advocacy
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, Zoom, Adobe Acrobat, and willingness to learn new technology and/or platforms

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with trauma survivors, or migrant/refugees/unaccompanied children
- Lived experience supporting children and their families navigating the immigration system and/or the child welfare system
- Understanding of the impact of trauma on children and familiarity with a trauma-informed approach to advocacy
- Bilingual ability (oral and written) in English/Spanish or English/other languages spoken by the population served
- Background and/or demonstrated interest in . immigration law
- Physical location in a city where the Young Center has an office or in the Southeast (Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, or South Carolina)

- Extended periods of keyboarding and sitting
