Staff Attorney - Eviction Defense ****
Responsibilities:
• Conduct intake appointments with clients seeking legal assistance for housing-related issues.
• Manage a caseload focused on eviction defense and housing law.
• Successfully multitask and prioritize tasks.
• Build collaborative relationships within the community.
• Represent clients in court proceedings and negotiations.
• Provide legal advice and counsel to clients.
• Prepare legal documents and pleadings.
• Conduct legal research and analysis.
• Attend trainings and professional development opportunities.
• Participate in outreach and community education events.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Juris Doctor degree and license to practice law in Michigan.
• Experience in housing law.
• Strong commitment to providing access to justice for low-income individuals and households.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Cultural competency and ability to work with diverse populations.
• Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
Salary and Benefits:
• Full-time salary starting at $63,000, with potential for increase based on experience.
• Additional $2,520 annual stipend for bilingual and biliterate individuals.

Position:
LAWM is seeking a Staff Attorney for our Grand Rapids office to work in eviction defense. This is a grant-funded position expected to be funded through December 2024.
Working Hours:
• Monday through Friday, 9:00AM to 5:00 PM.
