Staff Attorney - Eviction Defense Legal Aid of Western Michigan (LAWM) Responsibilities: • Conduct intake appointments with clients seeking legal assistance for housing-related issues. • Manage a caseload focused on eviction defense and housing law. • Successfully multitask and prioritize tasks. • Build collaborative relationships within the community. • Represent clients in court proceedings and negotiations. • Provide legal advice and counsel to clients. • Prepare legal documents and pleadings. • Conduct legal research and analysis. • Attend trainings and professional development opportunities. • Participate in outreach and community education events. • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: • Juris Doctor degree and license to practice law in Michigan. • Experience in housing law. • Strong commitment to providing access to justice for low-income individuals and households. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Cultural competency and ability to work with diverse populations. • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
