Legal Internship at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights – Fall 2024 Job Title: Legal Intern at The Leadership Conference Experience: Current enrollment in an accredited law school Salary: $24 per hour for minimum of 24 hours per week Deadline to Apply: May 1, 2024 Organization Overview: - The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition of over 230 organizations promoting and protecting civil and human rights in America. - The Leadership Conference Education Fund is the education and research arm of The Leadership Conference, focusing on federal policies that promote and protect civil and human rights. - Founded in 1969, the Education Fund empowers advocates to push for progressive change in the US. About the Role: - The Legal Intern will be part of a fast-paced internship program providing real-world work experience in civil and human rights and social justice. - The program includes involvement in various activities such as communications, development, field work, organizational management, and policy work. - Interns will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge about civil and human rights issues, understand coalition politics, and observe the processes of the federal government. - This position reports to the Senior Advisor to the President and is not part of the collective bargaining unit. Responsibilities: - Track legislation on core civil rights issues and monitor media coverage. - Attend coalition meetings, assist with coordinating grassroots events, and attend congressional hearings and briefings. - Conduct legal and legislative research and draft testimony, advocacy letters, blog posts, and other documents. - Attend skills-building workshops and trainings and provide administrative support. - Plan and carry out a civil rights-focused event with fellow interns. - Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: - Strong research and writing skills. - Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people and multitask. - Strong commitment to social justice issues. - Internship Schedule: - 12-week long internship from Monday, September 9, 2024 to Friday, December 6, 2024. - Minimum 20-hour weekly commitment, with a preference for interns to work on Mondays. Compensation: - Legal interns will be paid an hourly rate of $24 for a minimum of 24 hours per week. Frequently Asked Questions: Q: Which students are eligible for the internship? A: Yes, the internship will be entirely virtual for the foreseeable future, with the possibility of optional events in Washington, DC. Q: Can I receive school credit for the internship?
