In this role, the individual will be responsible for advising clients on tax implications and other accounting related matters, with a focus on unclaimed property compliance and consulting. The ideal candidate will have strong tax and/or accounting skills, as well as experience in project management, reconciliation, financial auditing, and internal controls. They will also have the opportunity to work with the Core Tax and Audit Principals, Directors, and Senior Managers to provide SALT expertise to clients. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary range of $95,000 - $250,000, depending on qualifications, experience, skills, and location. Job Responsibilities: Conduct research on complex tax situations and provide detailed reports of findings Obtain and manipulate data from clients for preparation of annual escheat returns Use FSI Track, BDO Global Portal, and other systems for data gathering and preparation of returns Identify exemptions and deferrals and perform reconciliations on data Respond to notices from state authorities and assist with due diligence letter processing and client payment processing Provide assistance with exam support and communicate regularly with clients and team members Draft memorandums, opinions, and other documentation on escheat issues and develop escheat planning processes, policies, and procedures Represent clients on unclaimed property audits and voluntary disclosures, as well as identify gift card planning opportunities and assist with implementation Conduct client interviews, onsite visits, and reviews of relevant source data for escheat items Assist with identifying and implementing remediation procedures and develop exposure quantification models Assist with client refund review process and apply all applicable state tax consulting specialties Manage client expectations and deliverables, oversee and project manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously Represent clients before tax authorities on contested issues Utilize FSI track, tax research databases, and other tax-related software in completing assigned tasks Train team members on relevant software and evaluate their performance Act as a Career Advisor to team members Achieve annual business development goals and secure new business leads Update CRM entries and actively participate in relevant trade organizations and events Other duties as required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, preferably in Accounting, required 6+ years of prior experience in tax, financial statement auditing, internal auditing, or forensic accounting, required Prior supervisory experience, required CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word, required Experience with Power BI, Alteryx, and other software preferred Excellent communication skills, analytical and research skills, and organizational skills Ability to work independently or in a team environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously Ability to manage a team and delegate work assignments Executive presence and ability to act as the primary contact on assigned engagements Advanced knowledge of tax standards and sources of relevant information Ability to interact with professionals at all levels and build strong relationships Knowledge of cause/effect for taxable conditions and potential tax issues Employee Benefits: BDO offers a comprehensive compensation and Total Rewards benefits package, including an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) that allows participants to share in the firm's success through beneficial ownership and the opportunity to enhance their financial well-being over time.
