Staff Attorney – Eviction Prevention Unit – Vancouver, Washington Organization: Northwest Justice Project (NJP) Job Title: Staff Attorney, Eviction Prevention Unit (EPU) Location: Vancouver, Washington Experience: Litigation experience preferred Salary: Starting salary range of $73,142 to $133,712 annually NJP, a statewide not-for-profit law firm, is seeking a qualified attorney to join their Eviction Prevention Unit (EPU) in Vancouver, Washington. This position will primarily serve tenants in southwest Washington, but may also provide coverage in other parts of the state as needed. NJP is committed to their mission of Combating Injustice, Strengthening Communities, and Protecting Human Dignity through legal representation, community partnerships, and education. The ideal candidate will have professional, personal, and/or service experience that aligns with NJP's commitment to racial equity and be willing to engage with the communities they serve. NJP requires all employees to be vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19, with exemptions available for medical and religious reasons. As a staff attorney in the EPU, the selected candidate will represent individuals in unlawful detainer actions and provide assistance to those with unfiled actions. They will also use strategic methods and advocacy tools to address high priority eviction-related needs, with a focus on marginalized groups such as immigrants, youth, seniors, and disabled individuals. The staff attorney will also develop collaborative relationships with advocates throughout the state and engage with at-risk communities through education events. Other responsibilities include utilizing NJP's case management and timekeeping systems, providing coverage in different counties as needed, and supporting the work of NJP's eviction defense partners. The selected candidate will also be expected to uphold NJP's commitment to the Washington Race Equity and Justice Initiative (REJI). Qualifications for this position include membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association, litigation experience (particularly in Superior Court and tenant rights), and experience in housing or other legal issues affecting low-income communities. Candidates should also be culturally competent and have experience working with marginalized communities. Travel between counties and representation in different courts is required, and reliable transportation is necessary. NJP offers a competitive salary based on years of experience, with a starting range of $73,142 to $133,712 annually. They also provide compensation for employees regularly using a language other than English in their work and a comprehensive benefits package with 100% paid employee health premiums. The typical work hours for this position are 9:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday, with flexibility for professional responsibilities.
