Los Angeles, CA, United States SALT Senior Associate, Unclaimed Property - Job Description The SALT Senior Associate, Unclaimed Property, is responsible for providing tax expertise and consulting services to clients, with a focus on unclaimed property compliance and consulting. This unique role allows professionals to use their tax and accounting skills in a consultative capacity, working with sporadic data sets to analyze and model potential tax implications for clients. This position also involves project management, client communication, and business development opportunities. The SALT Senior Associate will work closely with leadership to recommend alternate courses of action and identify new methods of complying with unclaimed property regulations. Job Duties - Conduct research on complex tax issues, utilizing various sources such as state tax authorities and industry publications. - Obtain and manipulate data from clients to prepare annual escheat returns. - Utilize software systems for data gathering and reconciliation. - Identify and apply appropriate exemptions and deferrals for B2B transactions. - Compose responses to notices from state authorities and assist with due diligence letter processing and client payments. - Provide assistance with exam support and communicate regularly with clients and team members. - Draft memorandums and opinions on various escheat issues and participate in developing planning processes and internal controls. - Represent clients on unclaimed property audits and voluntary disclosures, mitigating exposures and implementing best practices. - Assist with identifying gift card planning opportunities and implementing strategies. - Compile and organize relevant source data for escheat items and prepare and review scheduling decks for analysis. - Assist clients with remediation procedures and develop exposure quantification models. - Manage client expectations and work with leadership on multiple projects simultaneously. - Utilize software systems and maintain working knowledge of various GL systems. - Participate in learning and implementing technology enhancements for the unclaimed property group. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, or Finance required. - Two or more years of prior experience in tax, financial statement auditing, or forensic accounting in a public accounting firm or in-house organization required. - CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) preferred. - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word, required. - Experience with Power BI, Alteryx, and other software preferred. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Strong analytical and research skills. - Ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details and successfully manage multiple projects. - Proven ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously. - Capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and client personnel. - Ability to encourage a team environment and contribute to the professional development of assigned personnel. - Executive presence and ability to act as primary contact on assigned engagements. - Advanced knowledge of tax standards and sources of relevant information. - Ability to interact effectively with professionals at all levels.
