The Claim Director - Complex Specialty is a key leadership role within AXIS, responsible for managing and resolving complex claims involving coverage disputes and legal action. The successful candidate will have a law degree and admission in good standing to one of the fifty state bars, as well as at least 5 years of experience in claims management and legal practice. They will also have a strong understanding of claim and litigation processes, as well as excellent communication, analytical, and negotiation skills. This role will be based in either New York, Chicago, or Alpharetta and will involve some travel.

Responsibilities:

- Directly manage complex coverage claims, including investigation, analysis, and evaluation of coverage liability and damages
- Oversee and manage coverage disputes, including litigation and arbitration matters
- Formulate claims and litigation strategies, assign and manage outside counsel
- Collaborate with the Litigation Management and Vendor Management teams to manage costs and develop the coverage counsel panel
- Provide guidance to the North American claims teams on coverage issues and disputes
- Review coverage positions for matters in various states and collaborate with other business units on errors and omissions issues
- Identify liability and coverage trends and formulate processes and strategies for handling claims
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Requirements:

- Law degree and admission in good standing to one of the fifty state bars
- 5+ years of claims management experience handling a variety of coverage issues and coverage litigation
- Experience practicing law and managing claims
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Understanding of both immediate claim issues and broader portfolio and customer service impact
- In-depth knowledge of claims, litigation, and trial processes
- Ability to travel for team management, court proceedings, and other related activities

Salary Information:

- Base salary of $115K - $160K, based on experience and location
