## Assistant City Attorney ### Job Summary The Assistant City Attorney is responsible for providing legal advice, representation, and services to appointed and elected officers, employees, agents and board members of the City in matters relating to their official duties for and on behalf of the City. ### Essential Job Functions * Assists the City Attorney and/or Deputy City Attorney in legal research, review and draft of legal documents. * Advises Planning, Airport, Finance, Capital Improvements, Leisure Services, and Maintenance Operations Departments. * Prepares resolutions, ordinances, and other proposed legislation of routine nature. * Serves as legal counsel for City’s advisory boards, attending meetings monthly. * Provides legal services to other City boards as needed. * Attends public meetings and court hearings as needed. * Performs real estate closings. * Represents the City in bid, purchasing, and contract negotiation. * Performs administrative and legal work in accordance with federal, state and municipal laws. * Reviews and/or prepares routine legal documents, prepares briefs and legal opinions, and drafting of proposed legislation. * Prepares leases and contracts of a routine nature. * Works with the City Attorney and/or Deputy City Attorney in more difficult and complex legal issues. * Performs other related duties as required. ### Education and Experience * Graduation from an accredited law school, and; * Three to seven years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in governmental law or; * Any combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, required to perform the essential functions of the job. ### Licenses and Certifications * Licensed by the Florida Bar to practice law. * Certified by the Florida Bar as a Specialist in City, County and Local Government law is desired. * Valid Florida Driver License ### Salary The salary for this position is $92, annually. ### Job Benefits The City of New Smyrna Beach provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.
