(CRLA) Experience: Minimum 6 months in a legal services environment Salary: $65,500-$90,000 (depending on years of admission and relevant work experience) Application Deadline: Open until filled Overview: Founded in 1966, California Rural Legal Assistance Inc. (CRLA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing legal services to low-income individuals and communities in rural areas. With over 50 years of experience, CRLA has become a leader in the fight for justice and individual rights for marginalized communities. We are currently looking for a Staff Attorney to join our Rural Justice Unit at our Modesto office. Responsibilities: As a Staff Attorney, you will provide comprehensive legal services to eligible clients in accordance with CRLA program guidelines and legal standards. Your responsibilities will include: - Providing legal services to low-income clients and client groups, including advice, negotiation, litigation, and administrative advocacy - Reviewing and supervising the work of Community Workers and Clerical support staff - Undertaking significant statewide impact activity, such as institutional and group litigation - Developing leadership in working with community, client, and other advocacy groups - Coordinating advocacy efforts with other human services providers and non-profit organizations - Participating in CRLA training programs and other activities as required - Providing community education regarding legal rights and preparing materials for presentations - Working with members of the private bar as necessary - Maintaining contemporaneous time records in the CRLA case management system - Maintaining positive relations with all members of the office staff - Other duties as assigned Qualifications: To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements: - Admitted to practice law in the State of California or willing to take the next CA Bar Exam - Demonstrated commitment to working with low-income clients - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks with attention to detail - Good people skills and ability to work with a diverse population Preferred qualifications include experience working with low-income families and communities, prior experience in a non-profit legal services environment, and bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish. Compensation and Benefits: At CRLA, we value our employees and offer a competitive compensation and benefits package. This includes a generous benefits package that covers 100% of medical, dental, vision, life, and short and long-term disability insurance for employees and up to 50% for dependents. We also offer a 401K retirement plan with a CRLA contribution, professional dues payment, and a law school Loan Reimbursement Assistance Program (LRAP). Our generous paid leave policy includes 15 days of sick leave, 15 holidays per year, and vacation time that increases with years of service. This is a union position, and the salary ranges from $65,500-$90,000 depending on years of admission and relevant work experience.
