Overview:

Founded in 1966, California Rural Legal Assistance Inc. (CRLA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing legal services to low-income individuals and communities in rural areas. With over 50 years of experience, CRLA has become a leader in the fight for justice and individual rights for marginalized communities. We are currently looking for a Staff Attorney to join our Rural Justice Unit at our Modesto office.

Responsibilities:

As a Staff Attorney, you will provide comprehensive legal services to eligible clients in accordance with CRLA program guidelines and legal standards. Your responsibilities will include:

- Providing legal services to low-income clients and client groups, including advice, negotiation, litigation, and administrative advocacy
- Reviewing and supervising the work of Community Workers and Clerical support staff
- Undertaking significant statewide impact activity, such as institutional and group litigation
- Developing leadership in working with community, client, and other advocacy groups
- Coordinating advocacy efforts with other human services providers and non-profit organizations
- Participating in CRLA training programs and other activities as required
- Providing community education regarding legal rights and preparing materials for presentations
- Working with members of the private bar as necessary
- Maintaining contemporaneous time records in the CRLA case management system
- Maintaining positive relations with all members of the office staff
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

- Admitted to practice law in the State of California or willing to take the next CA Bar Exam
- Demonstrated commitment to working with low-income clients
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks with attention to detail
- Good people skills and ability to work with a diverse population

Preferred qualifications include experience working with low-income families and communities, prior experience in a non-profit legal services environment, and bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a union position, and the salary ranges from $65,500-$90,000 depending on years of admission and relevant work experience.
