Position Description
- Immediate opening for a Supervising Attorney in the Fair Housing Enforcement Project (FHEP)
- Can choose to work in Bath, Rochester, or Geneva office
- Provide leadership and supervision to a team of attorneys and paralegals in FHEP
- Responsible for independent workload representing clients in housing discrimination cases based on various factors
- Must have patience, emotional maturity, and commitment to service for low-income clients
- Supervisors play a critical role in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion

Qualifications
- Admitted to practice and in good standing in New York State
- 3 years experience providing legal services as a licensed attorney
- Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple tasks
- Demonstrated commitment to service for low-income people
- Commitment to learning and developing supervision skills that support diversity, equity, and inclusion

Responsibilities
- Provide various legal services to low-income clients and client groups
- Interact respectfully with clients from diverse backgrounds
- Supervise caseload of attorneys and paralegals, ensuring appropriate workload and periodic case review
- Identify leadership development and mentoring opportunities for supervisees
- Create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment
- Collaborate with other human services providers, non-profit organizations, and community groups
- Cooperate with grant reporting requirements and maintain professional competence

Additional Traits and Skills
- Litigation experience
- Experience with anti-racist and anti-oppressive legal practice
- Understanding of structural and institutional racism and its impact on underserved communities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with commitment to trauma-informed services
- Skill in mentoring and training less-experienced staff
- Experience with courts and agencies in service area, or ability to build relationships with impacted community members, courts, and agencies
- Lived experience with client communities
- Fluency in a language other than English spoken by clients

Compensation
- Salary dependent on experience and based on pay scale with annual increments
- Beginning salary for Supervising Attorney with 3 years experience is $68,000, and $77,900 for 10 years experience
- May qualify for public interest law school loan forgiveness programs
- Fringe benefits include 94% employer paid health insurance, dental and disability insurance, vision coverage, and $50,000 life insurance
- Generous leave provisions, including 20 days of vacation, holidays, 2 floating holidays, 12 sick days, and 5 personal days per year
- 20 days of paid new parent leave
