Seeking Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) to work in the relaunched Gun Crimes Strategies & Prevention Collaborative Unit. We work every day on new efforts to improve public safety in Philadelphia in the face of the challenge of gun violence; our goal is to prevent crime and prioritize accountability. The Gun Crimes Strategies & Prevention Collaborative Unit is responsible for identifying and investigating non-fatal shooting in coordination with PPD, and the prosecution of these “group-related” shooting felony cases in the Court of Common Pleas and in Juvenile Court. The ADA’s will work alongside the DAO Community Engagement unit to ensure that the voices and perspectives of victims and residents are prioritized. ADAs in the Gun Crimes Strategies & Prevention Collaborative Unit will work in collaboration with the PPD’s Detective Division, PPD’s Shooting Investigative Group and the DAO Community Engagement Unit, and work under the supervision of our most skilled and experienced prosecutors. This position is full-time and will involve both courtroom work and work out in the field.
Qualification and Experience All candidates must be admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Candidates must have 3 or more years of legal experience following graduation from an accredited law school. Candidates should have courtroom experience in trials or other evidentiary proceedings involving serious felonies, and be able to manage a caseload. Prior experience as a prosecutor in Philadelphia or another large jurisdiction, is a plus. Candidate must have prior experience in community-based work. Ability to work directly with Detectives and other ADAs to investigate cases is required. Candidates must be organized, flexible and capable of working under pressure. Proficiency in case management systems is desirable. Ability to develop and cultivate effective internal/external working relationships is essential. Candidates must have an understanding of the uniquely sensitive and confidential nature of the professional services provided by the Office.
