## Overview: TRLA Clerkships and Internships

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) provides a variety of unpaid clerkships and internships for undergraduate and law students. These internships and clerkships can last for a semester, a mini-mester, a co-op, a summer fellowship, or an internship. TRLA offers placements across our service area and is looking for applicants who are fluent in Spanish and/or interested in rural and border locations.

## Applying for a TRLA Internship or Clerkship

TRLA accepts applications for unpaid clerkships and internships year-round. When applying, applicants must provide a cover letter addressing one or more of the topics listed below, a resume, a writing sample, and references. Applicants must also provide their preferred start date, indicate whether they are an undergraduate student or recent graduate seeking an internship or a law student seeking a clerkship or summer fellowship, indicate whether they would like to be considered for a TRLA summer fellowship, list the types of cases or areas of law that interest them, list any tasks they are particularly interested in helping with, list where they are going to law school, list where they received their undergraduate degree(s), and indicate their Spanish language proficiency. Applicants must also indicate their preferred TRLA offices.

- Describe a significant legal or social justice experience and its impact on your plan to pursue public interest law.
- Describe some of the unique challenges you think or know clients in our service area may experience in rural or border areas and how an agency like TRLA can help.
- Describe any connection, personal or professional, to our service area and the client populations we serve.
