The Nassau County Legal Aid Society is looking for a highly skilled and passionate attorney to join their team in the Appeals Bureau. This position is open to both lateral hires with appellate experience, as well as entry level attorneys or recent law graduates. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in criminal defense and/or public interest law, and a demonstrated passion for appellate advocacy with exceptional writing skills.

The Appeals Bureau at the Nassau County Legal Aid Society handles a wide range of criminal appeals, including felony, misdemeanor, and special litigation matters. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of cases and gain valuable experience in the field of criminal defense.

Responsibilities:
- Handle all aspects of criminal appeals, including drafting briefs and motions, conducting legal research, and arguing before appellate courts
- Collaborate with other attorneys and staff to develop and implement appellate strategies
- Conduct client interviews and investigations to gather necessary information for appeals
- Stay up-to-date with changes in the law and legal trends related to criminal appeals

Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- Strong interest in criminal defense and/or public interest law
- Demonstrated interest/experience in appellate advocacy
- Exceptional writing skills
