LSA, one of the largest statewide law firms in Alabama, is seeking a John Lewis Legal Fellow to join their team. The organization provides free, client-centered, civil legal advocacy to low-income Alabamians, and works to find solutions to systemic issues caused by poverty and social justice inequities. The John Lewis Fellowship was established in 2019 to encourage young attorneys interested in poverty law and racial justice to gain experience with a nonprofit civil legal aid law firm in Alabama.

Job Responsibilities:

- Advocate for clients and collaborate with client communities and pro bono attorneys to address community-identified issues
- Conduct outreach and training, organize free legal clinics, and lead legal service projects
- Focus on using legal advocacy, education, and outreach to promote access to justice
- Support community empowerment and lawyering through strong communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to social and humanitarian concerns

Qualifications:

- Must be sitting for a Bar Exam in July 2024 or February 2025, or already licensed in any state
- Preference given to candidates licensed in Alabama
- Demonstrated interest in public interest law and meaningful experiences with marginalized communities
- Strong legal writing and communication skills required, initiative and creativity preferred
- Bilingual candidates preferred
