Essential Functions: Provide assistance to the City Attorney and Deputy City Attorneys in performing legal research and writing. Assist in preparing and revising legal documents such as ordinances, resolutions, and contracts. Review and research complex requests for public information. Assist in providing legal opinions to requesting departments. Assist paralegal in preparing litigation documents such as pleadings, discovery requests and responses, deposition summaries, while monitoring deadlines. Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance. Additional Duties: Become familiar with general City operations by attending meetings, with various departments, committees, and boards. May serve as a liaison between attorneys and departments. May assist the Lead Prosecutor with municipal court tasks. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience JOB REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency: Current enrollment in an ABA accredited law school OR Recent law school graduate awaiting bar exam results OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job Core Competencies: Knowledge of legal research methods Skilled in the operation of a personal computer and software, specifically Westlaw, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and other City departments Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance Ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail in a fast-paced environment Strong time management and project management skills Preferences: Bilingual in Spanish and English Knowledge of laws relating to municipal government and litigation are preferred Have completed a minimum of two years of legal education
