Job Title: Staff Attorney (Family Law) at Womankind

Summary:

Womankind, an organization focused on supporting survivors of gender-based violence, is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Staff Attorney to join their legal department. The Staff Attorney will provide direct representation and support for survivors in family law matters, including orders of protection, custody, visitation, child support, and uncontested divorces. The ideal candidate will have a law degree and admission to the New York State Bar, as well as experience in family law and working with survivors of gender-based violence. This full-time position offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Responsibilities:

- Screen and provide direct representation, brief services, referrals, and consultations for family law matters
- Conduct legal research and prepare petitions and filings for Family and Supreme Courts
- Provide consultations, brief services, and referrals on family law issues
- Advise advocates and other staff on how to support survivors in family law matters
- Give presentations on family law and related topics for external and internal professionals and clients

Qualifications:

- Law Degree with admission to New York State Bar
- Ability to speak an Asian language is preferred
- 1-2 years of experience in family law matters
- Familiarity with New York City family courts
- Knowledge of non-profit social services and working with survivors of gender-based violence
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
- Ability to handle confidential matters
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work with diverse populations and within a team structure
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and volunteers

Compensation Package:

- Annual salary range of $65,000 - $70,000
