Job Summary:
As an STS Tax Manager, State and Local Taxation, you will be responsible for providing expert tax advice to clients, identifying potential tax savings opportunities, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. In addition, you will have the opportunity to develop new business and stay up-to-date on changing tax policies.

Key Responsibilities:

Research:
- Identify complex tax situations and conduct thorough research using appropriate sources
- Analyze research findings and prepare detailed reports
- Build relationships with state tax authorities

Tax Compliance:
- Review tax returns and identify significant state tax issues
- Respond to notices from state taxing authorities
- Provide support during tax audits

Tax Consulting:
- Prepare tax memorandums and opinions on various tax issues
- Utilize specialized knowledge and consult with other STS professionals when needed
- Develop tax planning strategies and assist with research

Tax Controversy:
- Represent clients in disputes with tax authorities

Tax Related Software:
- Use tax software and research databases to complete assigned tasks

Tax Specialization:
- Provide technical client service for multi-state companies with state and local tax issues
- Negotiate settlements and voluntary disclosure agreements
- Draft technical memoranda on state and local tax issues

Accounting for Income Taxes – SFAS109:
- Prepare tax accrual workpapers

ASC740-10:
- Understand and apply industry standards and firm policies related to tax provisions

Strategy Development:
- Conduct tax implication studies and propose alternative courses of action for clients
- Develop new ideas to reduce taxes and expenses for clients or offer non-tax benefits
- Assist with researching potential tax strategies
- Suggest marketing approaches for new client acquisition

Other duties as required.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or relevant field (Master's degree or . preferred)
- More than 5 years of experience in state and local/multistate taxation
- Experience supervising tax professionals and preparing/reviewing tax provisions preferred
- CPA or relevant certification preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with tax software and research tools
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong leadership and relationship-building abilities
- Knowledge of tax standards and relevant sources of information

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversee STS SALT Senior Associates and Associates and review their work
- Train tax professionals on relevant software
- Evaluate performance and provide feedback
- Act as Career Advisor to STS SALT Senior Associates and Associates
