Senior Claims Examiner - BI

Hiscox is currently seeking a Senior Claims Examiner in various locations across the USA including Atlanta, Chicago, Scottsdale, New York City, and White Plains. This is a full-time permanent position with a competitive salary range of $80,000 - $95,000.

As a Senior Claims Examiner, you will be responsible for adjudicating assigned claims within given authority and providing operational support to the claims team. This role requires a minimum of 6 years of claims handling experience and a JD from an ABA accredited law school may be considered as a supplement. The successful candidate will also have advanced knowledge of claims analysis and adjusting practices, as well as in-depth knowledge of standards for claims documentation and legal filings.

Key Responsibilities:

- Adjust and resolve moderate to complex claims that include all phases of litigation
- Accurately document claim files with all relevant claim documentation, correspondence, and notes in compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory authorities
- Draft coverage letters, including reservation of rights and denial letters, with minimal supervision
- Review and analyze claim documentation and legal filings to set timely and accurate reserves and notify the manager if upward segmentation is needed
- Identify emerging exposures and claims trends
- Drive litigation best practices to manage deployment and utilization of defense counsel
- Identify suspected fraudulent claims and track with special investigations unit
- Participate in claims projects as needed

Qualifications:

- 6+ years of claims handling experience
- JD from an ABA accredited law school may be considered as a supplement to claims handling experience
- Advanced knowledge of claims analysis and adjusting practices
- In-depth knowledge of standards for claims documentation and legal filings
- Proven ability to actively and effectively negotiate settlement of moderate to complex claims
- Experience in mentoring and training other claims examiners
- Advanced analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Active insurance adjuster's license
- degree from an accredited College or University preferred

- Subject matter expertise in mediation, arbitration or trial attendance
- Demonstrated take-charge attitude and ability to work with minimal oversight within their authority levels
- Identifies and suggests improvements to processes within the claim department and raises with manager
- Demonstrated steps taken toward additional certifications by an approved authority such as a CPCU, ARMS or AINS designation
- Commitment to professional development and learning demonstrated by at least 5 hours of continuing education related to insurance topics through Success Factory, Hiscox in-person or video conference training sessions, or other in-person seminars or webinars
