Job Overview: A law firm in Washington, DC, seeks a Communications Associate Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of experience and a background in communications and technology law and policy. They will be responsible for providing legal counsel to clients on various communications-related matters, including advocacy at regulatory agencies, contract negotiation, and litigation.

Duties:

  • Draft pleadings and advocate at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and state public utility commissions.
  • Advise clients on federal Universal Service Fund programs and contributions, including audit, investigation, and enforcement representation.
  • Provide counsel on consumer protection-related matters, such as privacy, terms of service, accessibility, and broadband transparency, including drafting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and prosecute applications before the FCC, USAC, and state public utility commissions.
  • Negotiate and draft communications, IoT, and technology contracts.
  • Seek authorization for major acquisitions and other transactions before the FCC and other Executive Branch agencies.
  • Handle litigation involving communications-related matters.

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of experience in communications and technology law and policy.
  • Have a background in communications and consumer protection/privacy regulatory matters, transactions, and/or litigation/enforcement matters.
  • Excellent academic credentials with strong writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Membership in the DC Bar or eligibility to be admitted to the DC Bar.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Membership in the DC Bar or eligibility for admission.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of communications and technology law and policy.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide practical solutions.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
