GENERAL DESCRIPTION

- Attorney position in the Data Privacy and Security Team of the Consumer Protection Division
- Based in Houston, Austin, Dallas, or San Antonio
- Focus on enforcement of Texas's privacy laws
- Collaborative work environment with regular interaction with division management and regulators

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

- Conduct and supervise consumer protection investigations
- Litigate civil enforcement cases from start to finish
- Research and analyze complex factual and legal matters
- Monitor privacy, cyber, and technology developments at the state and federal level
- Provide legal advice and counsel to clients and management
- Develop and implement effective litigation and enforcement strategies
- Represent the Office of the Attorney General in court
- Evaluate proposed and enacted federal and state statutes
- Participate in rulemaking and responding to legislative inquiries
- Provide training and maintain knowledge of legal principles related to data privacy
- Participate in community outreach activities
- Maintain security and confidentiality of sensitive information
- Comply with agency policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:

- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- 3 years of full-time experience in data privacy, privacy compliance, consumer protection, or commercial litigation
- Licensed attorney in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
- Skill in legal research, writing, analysis, mediation, and negotiations
- Experience with technology and electronic discovery
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and decision-making skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently
- Ability to work in person at assigned OAG location
- Ability to travel up to 15%

Preferred:

- 8 years of full-time experience in data privacy, consumer protection, privacy compliance, or commercial litigation
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
- Experience with complex litigation, jury trials, and motion practice
- Ability to work collaboratively within a larger organization
- Privacy certifications
