. Horton, Inc. is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Underwriting Counsel to join their team. This role involves analyzing risk, conducting legal research, interacting with agents, and making decisions on the insurability of titles. This position offers a competitive salary range of $125,000-150,000 and a comprehensive benefits package.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct risk adverse and common sense underwriting decisions
• Respond to underwriting inquiries from agents in a timely manner
• Research and analyze statutes, regulations, court rulings, and other legal publications
• Identify issues, establish transactional facts, and apply legal principles and underwriting guidelines
• Provide analysis and guidance on relevant federal and state laws
• Participate in agent underwriting reviews and support recruitment and retention efforts
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Conduct all business with professionalism and ethics
• Ability to travel overnight
• Develop and present educational and underwriting materials for employees and agents
• Prepare bulletins, alerts, memoranda, and other agent communications

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctorate Degree and license to practice law
• 3-5 years of experience in title insurance underwriting or claims
• Strong understanding of legal principles and ability to apply them
• Proficiency with MS Office and email
• Ability to sit for majority of workday and perform tasks requiring hand and arm movement
• Strong communication and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Proficient in internet research
• Excellent presentation skills
