These ADA positions will represent the state in cases, including felonies, misdemeanors, and traffic violations. Determine charging decisions and negotiate plea agreements. POSITION SUMMARY
Represent the state in cases, including felonies, misdemeanors, and traffic violations. Determine charging decisions and negotiate plea agreements. Conduct jury trials, court trials, evidentiary motions, and sentencing hearings. Draft appellate briefs. Direct law enforcement regarding procedures, case law, evidence, and warrants.
GOALS AND WORK ACTIVITIES
Consistent with Chapter 978 and other relevant provisions of the Wisconsin Statutes, Assistant District Attorneys in Waupaca County have responsibilities that include the following:
A1. Reviewing referrals from law enforcement agencies to determine whether to decline or issue charges based on those referrals
A2. Issuing charges consistent with ethical and legal standards.
A3. Attending to the requirements of Chapter 950 and other relevant provisions of the Wisconsin Statutes that relate to notification and treatment of victims of crime.
A4. Handling in a professional and ethical manner the prosecution of cases that merit prosecution, which includes the duties as a minister of justice to zealously pursue the truth in court and present facts with candor to courts and juries.
A5. Assigned work can include cases in the areas of juvenile delinquency, certain forfeiture actions, criminal misdemeanors, traffic, and felonies.
A6. Obligations of an Assistant District Attorney include providing discovery to opposing parties as required by law and consistent with related case law.

This Assistant District Attorney must be able to act independently with limited oversight in a high-profile position dealing with public safety matters of great interest to the community. Additional duties include:
B1. Providing guidance to law enforcement agencies, social workers, and others that relate to potential or actual prosecutions, including participation in training sessions.
B2. This assistance also includes reviewing draft subpoenas and search warrants prepared by law enforcement.
B3. Assistant District Attorneys are in a unique position to inform others who work in the criminal justice system and the public at large about developing trends, problems, and concerns related to their daily work in a collaborative manner.
B4. Interact with members of the community, victims, witnesses, and pro-se defendants.

Qualification and Experience 3rd year law students graduating in May 2022 are encouraged to apply! 1. Attorney licensed to practice law in Wisconsin. 2. Considerable knowledge of criminal law. 3. Working knowledge of motion practice, federal and state case law, rules of evidence and trial practice. 4. Working knowledge of verbal and written communication techniques and theories. 5. Working knowledge of analytical techniques. 6. Demonstrable skills in establishing and maintaining high level professional contacts. 7. Ability to reach consensus on potential conflict issues between stakeholders. 8. Working knowledge of criminal justice policy issues and analysis and program evaluation principles and theory. 9. Ability to perform competently under tight deadlines, withstand stress, and adhere to fundamental values when challenged. 10. Ability to work independently. 11. Ability to work quickly and accurately with minimal oversight. 12. Ability to learn diverse and complex issues on short time intervals.
