This is a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

CLS is currently seeking an attorney to fill a position in our Right to Counsel Program (RTC). This program focuses on eviction defense and other housing matters in Waterbury, Danbury, and Litchfield. As an attorney with CLS, you will have the opportunity to represent families and individuals in administrative hearings and state and federal courts, as well as advocate for changes in laws and systems to benefit low-income communities.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about advocating for low-income, vulnerable, and marginalized communities and who share our mission, vision, goals, and values. As an attorney with CLS, you will have the opportunity to work in a holistic and client-centered environment, addressing complex and systemic client issues through collaboration with other legal services lawyers and community agencies.

Responsibilities:
- Maintain an active caseload of representation and advice cases, including regular remote or in-person court appearances and administrative hearings appearances
- Conduct community outreach remotely and in-person, and coordinate with other social service agencies working with our clients
- Identify larger trends and issues for our clients and work with the CLS Housing Unit to develop strategies to respond to those trends and issues

Qualifications:
- Deep and demonstrated commitment to advocacy on behalf of low-income, vulnerable, and marginalized communities, and to CLS’ mission, vision, goals, and values
- Connecticut bar admission
- Spanish language fluency (preferred)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to write persuasively and clearly, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
- Demonstrated ability both to collaborate closely with colleagues and also to work independently when necessary
- Creativity and flexibility in solving problems and meeting challenges

Start Date: As soon as possible
Compensation: Salary depends on experience ($61,362-$120,584); excellent vacation/leave, health, and other benefits.
