As the Director, Deputy General Counsel - Regulatory Affairs, you will be responsible for providing legal opinions on matters related to the regulatory, safety, and economic frameworks applicable to CN in the United States, as well as cross-border issues with Canada and Mexico. This role requires proactive leadership, autonomy, and flexibility as you represent the organization before various regulatory agencies and handle outside counsel in judicial authorities. You will also support all CN functions on any regulatory matters raised.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal opinions on applicable statutes and regulations
- Strategize to ensure consistency with the regulatory framework
- Review communication materials from the Government and Public Affairs department
- Make filings and give instructions to outside counsel
- Engage with government officials and attend meetings or hearings
- Manage an extensive internal and external network
- Adopt a proactive and strategic approach in cross-functional counsel
- Collaborate with CN functions and external parties to creatively solve problems
- Provide counsel and support for all functions at CN

Working Conditions:
- Standard office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday
- Flexibility to work remotely in accordance with CN policy
- Availability on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidents
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and handle pressure and stress
- Occasional travel (up to 40%) within the . or Canada

Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the rail industry
- Demonstrated experience in a fast-paced environment with strong prioritization skills
- Experience in the transportation or railroad industry or federal agency regulating railroads is an asset
- Bachelor's degree or Juris Doctor (JD)
- Member of good standing admitted in Washington, DC
- Clerkship with a federal judge is an asset
