General Description:

- Represent state law enforcement agencies, officials, and employees in defense of lawsuits
- Handle all aspects of litigation, including legal research, witness preparation, motions, trials, and post-trial debriefings
- Provide excellent client service and work well with colleagues
- Provide legal advice and counsel to client state agencies and law enforcement entities
- Manage a docket of moderately complex level cases

Essential Position Functions for Assistant Attorney General I:

- Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (.) degree
- Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas
- Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
- Knowledge of relevant law and legal principles and practices
- Excellent organization and administrative skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to conduct legal research and make sound decisions
- Ability to work well with others in a professional environment
- Ability to provide excellent customer service
- Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed
- Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location
- Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
- Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
- Ability to travel up to 25%

Essential Position Functions for Assistant Attorney General II:

- All functions of an AAG I, PLUS:
- One year of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working civil litigation

Preferred Qualifications:

- Two years as a licensed attorney practicing in civil litigation
- Courtroom experience in state and/or federal court
- Exceptional academic credentials
- Law Review and/or post-graduation judicial clerkship
- Law school mock trial experience
