The Commercial Counsel at DataCamp is a highly strategic and important role for the company as it continues to grow and expand its presence in the data science education industry. This position offers a competitive salary and the opportunity to work with a dynamic and diverse team of professionals. The Commercial Counsel will be responsible for leading the drafting and negotiation of a wide range of agreements, supporting DataCamp's business teams and ensuring the successful licensing of its products and services to customers and vendors. This role requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in both a law firm and in-house at a global technology company, with a strong background in commercial contracts and a good working knowledge of SaaS agreements, technology licensing, and strategic deals. The ideal candidate will also have experience working with a high volume of commercial transactions in a fast-paced environment and possess strong organizational skills. They should also have a drive for efficiency and the ability to leverage technology to optimize processes, as well as the ability to provide timely and effective legal advice. As a member of the New York Bar (or another US jurisdiction or England), the Commercial Counsel will also have the opportunity to work with international offices, including those in the UK and Belgium.

Key responsibilities of the Commercial Counsel at DataCamp include leading the drafting and negotiation of a broad range of agreements, collaborating closely with internal business partners, and supporting procurement and business teams in negotiating vendor agreements. They will also be responsible for driving continuous improvement and operational excellence in the commercial negotiation process and developing processes and technologies to effectively deliver legal support to DataCamp's expanding portfolio of enterprise customers. The Commercial Counsel will have the opportunity to develop and revise contract templates, as well as provide clear and effective communication with business teams, especially sales teams.

The ideal candidate for this role should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in both a law firm and in-house at a global technology company, with a strong background in commercial contracts and a good working knowledge of SaaS agreements, technology licensing, and strategic deals. They should also possess strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, as well as a drive for efficiency and the ability to leverage technology to optimize processes. The Commercial Counsel should also have excellent communication skills and be a team player with a strong work ethic, able to collaborate with various internal teams in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Leading drafting and negotiation of a broad range of agreements, including Master Services Agreements, terms of service, services agreements, and other SaaS agreements, supporting DataCamp's business teams.
Independently identifying creative legal solutions for commercial transactions, including customer subscription agreements and data processing agreements.
Collaborating closely with Sales, Operations, and Finance teams to shepherd deals to completion.
Supporting procurement and business teams in negotiating vendor agreements.
Driving continuous improvement and operational excellence in the commercial negotiation process and developing processes and technologies to effectively deliver legal support to DataCamp's expanding portfolio of enterprise customers.
Developing and revising contract templates as necessary, based on changes in product offerings, organization, and privacy laws.
Communicating effectively with business teams, especially sales teams.
Providing timely and effective legal advice in a fast-paced environment.
Managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines.
Working independently and resolving complex problems.
Working flexibly on a varied schedule based on the needs of the team, including calls at odd hours as needed.
Developing scalable legal infrastructure.
Traveling as needed.
Staying up-to-date with industry trends and developments.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years of experience at a law firm and in-house at a global technology company, with a strong background in commercial contracts and a good working knowledge of SaaS agreements, technology licensing, and strategic deals.
Prior experience supporting a high volume of commercial transactions in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Drive for efficiency and the ability to leverage technology to optimize processes.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with various internal teams.
Member of the New York Bar (or another US jurisdiction or England).
Experience working with international offices is a plus.
Familiarity with data and/or e-learning is a plus.
