As the largest civil legal services provider in the country, LSNYC fights poverty and works towards achieving equity for all low-income New Yorkers. About Legal Services NYC: - Over 50 years of challenging systemic injustices that trap people in poverty - Provides legal services for basic needs such as housing, income and economic security, family and immigration stability, education, and health care - Employs over 600 people in neighborhood-based offices and outreach sites across all five boroughs - Partners with community-based and client-run organizations, elected officials, public agencies, pro bono lawyers, and the courts to maximize effectiveness - Offers growth and professional development opportunities, including access to the internal Justice Learning Center for free CLEs and experience as a trainer - Committed to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) efforts to create a welcoming work environment for all employees Responsibilities: - Conduct intake and provide full legal representation in housing court proceedings for income-eligible tenants referred through the Right-to-Counsel initiative and other sources - Litigate cases in housing court, administrative forums, appellate courts, and other state and federal courts on behalf of tenants facing eviction - Develop expertise in housing court practice, housing programs and subsidies, and public benefits - Provide legal advice and counseling to tenants - Conduct community outreach and know-your-rights workshops - Identify trends and recurring issues for potential impact litigation - Provide trainings to other advocates, tenant associations, community members, and community groups Qualifications: - . from an accredited law school and admission (or seeking admission) to practice law in the State of New York - Demonstrated commitment to social justice and working in low-income communities and communities of color - Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and conduct community outreach in low-income neighborhoods - Strong advocacy, analytic, writing, and leadership skills - Excellent time management and organization skills to handle a diverse, fast-paced caseload - Experience in housing, landlord/tenant, or related advocacy preferred - Fluency or proficiency in Spanish or other languages commonly used by clients preferred Salary Information: - 1-10 years of experience: $74,881 - $98,355 - 11-20 years of experience: $100,605 - $118,773 - 21+ years of experience: $124,254 - $135,637 LSNYC offers a generous benefits and compensation package, including exceptional healthcare, dental insurance, a vision plan, 21 vacation days per year (increasing to 28 days after the first year), 18 sick days per year, and a Loan Repayment Assistance Program. Staff can also work remotely up to 50% of the time, depending on job duties.
