Shake Shack is seeking a Vice President, Senior Employment Counsel to join their legal team in New York City. This position will play a critical role in providing legal counsel and advice to support the company's operations and growth plans, while also ensuring compliance and risk management. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in employment law and a strong background in both law firm and in-house legal settings.

This is a full-time position based out of Shake Shack's NYC office, with the option for a hybrid work schedule (working from home 1-2 days per week). The company offers a range of benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401K plan, paid time off, and more.

Responsibilities:

- Manage all aspects of dispute resolution, pre-litigation investigations, and litigation, including assessing new employment related charges, complaints, and attorney demand letters
- Draft responses and position statements and participate in fact-finding conferences and mediations
- Assist or lead internal investigations
- Provide counsel and advice to management, Human Resources, Operations, and the Shacks on all employment related issues
- Assist People Resources in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure compliance with employment laws
- Actively participate in cross-functional business teams to identify and resolve complex business issues and risks
- Coordinate with Risk Management on insurance for litigation matters

Qualifications:

- 12-15+ years of related employment law experience
- Must have law firm and in-house experience
- Retail or hospitality experience preferred
- Member in good standing of the New York Bar or another bar association with the ability to register as in-house counsel in New York
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations
- Excellent judgment, discretion, and risk assessment
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships
- Practical business acumen and the ability to provide pragmatic solutions
- A collaborative and approachable demeanor
- Self-starter who can work independently and manage multiple projects
- Strong organizational skills
