LawCrossing emerges out from job shortage, finds over 2,800 Legal Jobs in Texas.
August 08, 2011
Pasadena, CA — According to the Economic Modeling Specialists Inc.'s research, 53,508 people passed the bar exam in 2009 but only 26,239 attorney job openings have been estimated annually from 2010 through 2015.

This employment-data and economic-analysis consulting firm's study shows that Texas has the seventh-largest lawyer surplus having only 2,155 lawyer job openings but 3,052 people passing the bar exam annually. Thus 897 surplus lawyers will be passing out in Texas every year from 2010 to 2015.

According to the report, the average hourly wage for the nation is $44.22 an hour. The District of Columbia has by far highest hourly median wages $70.96 for lawyers in the nation, while the average hourly wages of lawyers in Texas is much lower than that with $41.55 an hour.

The law schools have been taking measures to find solutions for the surplus issue. These schools have been intentionally reducing the size of the entry. St. Mary's law school's most recent graduation and law grad employment statistics show 89.1% employed; 6.93% seeking; 2.16 % not seeking; 1.7% enrolled in a full-time degree; 2.12% unknown. South Texas College of Law shows 299 graduates employed; 6 graduates enrolled in a full-time degree program; 17 graduates unemployed and seeking work; and 16 graduates unemployed and not seeking work out of the 399 graduates. The Texas Tech University School of Law indicates 93% employment rate, while University of Houston Law Center has 94% employment rate out of the 95% graduation rate.
