LawCrossing Affiliate Releases Its 2008 Fall State of the Market Report Lists Hot Practice Areas Worldwide
November 21, 2008
Pasadena, CA — LawCrossing, the largest legal job portal in the United States, recently added the newly released BCG Attorney Search Fall 2008 State of the Market Report to its site. The report analyzes in detail the current legal job market and practice area trends in the United States, Europe, and Asia. According to the report, the demand for intellectual property and litigation attorneys, in particular, declined in recent times, while corporate law is currently the most dominant legal sector in most regions.

In exploring the legal market clearly and objectively, the report covers the following regions:
  • Southern California (Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego)
  • Northern California (Silicon Valley, San Francisco, and Sacramento)
  • The Northwest (Portland and Seattle)
  • The Northeast (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC)
  • The Southeast (Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, Miami, South Florida, Orlando, and Tampa)
  • The Southwest (Texas, Arizona, Nevada)
  • The Midwest (Chicago, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana, Ohio, Colorado, and Utah)
  • International (Europe and Asia)
“The report is testimony to the fact that the legal job market has been affected by the worldwide economic downturn, which has certainly taken a toll on the legal industry in general. There are still legal jobs available, but the hiring process is typically stretched out over a longer period of time. Law firms are being extremely selective,” says Harrison Barnes, CEO of LawCrossing.

Meanwhile, there have been regular reports of law firms cutting jobs in response to the economic slowdown. The latest figures from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed a total of 1,100 legal job cuts in October, making it the sixth straight month of legal layoffs. November also started off badly with layoff reports from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, White & Case, and McKee Nelson, among many others.

LawCrossing, on the other hand, is continuously adding more and more jobs each week. Last week, the job portal announced an addition of 13,000 new legal jobs, a mark which was bested this week by the addition of almost 14,000 more. “We are strenuously searching for each and every resource to locate every legal job. The job count itself speaks volumes about our dedicated research,” adds Barnes.

“While, the Fall 2008 State of the Market Report will give legal professionals a detailed account of the latest job marketand hiring trends, LawCrossing will give them the best opportunities to reach potential employers in the current downturn,” says Barnes.
