After graduating from law school and being admitted to the South Carolina Bar Association in 2006, Tem began his legal career as a Law Clerk at the South Carolina Court of Appeals. This experience allowed him to gain valuable insight into the appellate process and sharpen his legal research and writing skills.

Following his clerkship, Tem joined the Office of Senate Research at the South Carolina Senate, where he worked as an attorney for two years. During this time, he honed his ability to research complex legal issues and draft legislation for senators, further expanding his legal expertise.

In 2010, Tem joined a midsize civil litigation law firm in Columbia, S.C., where he focused on Personal Injury, Workers' Compensation, and General Civil Litigation. He served six years on the City Council of West Columbia and was elected Mayor of West Columbia in November 2019.
