Make sure you don't rest on your past successes and that you focus on how the firm will grow and continue into the future.
Having worked at many law firms I can say none are like Paley Rothman. This is a unique place. There is a sense of integrity that comes from people who are good, confident lawyers ... so they don't need to act like jerks. The firm respects clients and tries to treat them right. While the firm does serious legal work for both big and small clients, there still is a human element to working there. This is the best place I have worked.
The majority of the firm's clients are small and mid-size businesses, though there are some huge companies, so the firm can't bill clients - or pay lawyers - like the huge sweat-shops downtown. But, the pay is solid for Montgomery County (even high for employees who have been here for a long time ... and there are a lot of them) and the firm has a good work/life balance.
While there are one or two partners who can be difficult to work with on occasion, they still are good people and you can learn a ton from them. One of the people I work with has a reputation for being a bit demanding, but that person also is one of the smartest lawyers in the region and I have learned so much by working with that person.
There is a lot of good about working here, but mostly it is the people ... it's also nice that we have a lot of firm events (big and small) and there frequently is free food.
Make other positions open, that include seniority for long time workers to keep more people around. That will make it an even better experience and place to work around.
I really did enjoy working there and learned a lot more than I thought I would. It will help me in my future career and was a great place to be at this point in my life. I couldn't have asked for more.
I feel like there should be the ability to move up and have a chance to stay at the firm to progress one's career. That is the only reason I didn't stay, as I didn't see myself advancing further.
Thank you.
