Signature: Date: Application for Law Student Internship Page 4 of 5 HR Form Rev May 2023 Florida Attorney General's Internship Program - Gain Practical Experience in Consumer Protection The Florida Attorney General's Internship Program offers law students a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of consumer protection. As the civil enforcement authority for violations of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, the Consumer Protection Division investigates and litigates against entities and individuals engaged in unconscionable, deceptive, or unfair practices. This program allows students to work on real cases and make a meaningful impact in protecting consumers. Application Deadlines and Eligibility The program offers internships for the fall, spring, and summer terms, with deadlines as follows: - Summer: January 31 - Fall: June 30 - Spring: September 30 To be eligible, students must be enrolled in an accredited ABA law school and able to intern for a minimum of 20 hours per week. The program is open to both law students seeking academic credit and those not receiving credit. However, law students not receiving credit must participate in a law school sponsored program, such as Pro Bono Programs, Law School sponsored clinics, or Law School Paid Stipend programs. Internship Opportunities and Locations The number and locations of internship opportunities vary each term based on agency need and opportunity. Interns may be placed in offices located in Daytona Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers, Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, St. Petersburg, Tallahassee, Tampa, or West Palm Beach. Each office has a different focus, and a summary page with brief descriptions of each unit is provided to assist students in selecting their top three choices for internships. Responsibilities and Experience Interns will work alongside experienced attorneys and gain hands-on experience in investigating business practices, litigating in state and federal court, and obtaining settlements or judgments that return money to consumers and require injunctive and statutory relief. They will also have the opportunity to partner with other state attorneys general and state and federal agencies in joint enforcement efforts. Compensation and Application Process The internships are unpaid, but students may receive academic credit or participate in law school sponsored programs. To apply, students must submit an application, resume, letter from their advisor or university confirming eligibility for credit or participation in a law school sponsored program, and an official transcript. 2nd and 3rd year law students may also be asked to provide a writing sample during the selection process. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but students are encouraged to apply early.
