Summary:

The State and Local Tax Unclaimed Property Associate - Summer 2024 (Orange County) position at BDO offers a unique opportunity to utilize tax and accounting skills in a consultative capacity while working with a team of experienced professionals. Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Statistics, required, OR Bachelor's degree in other focus area AND CPA certification, required

- Accounting based internship, preferred

Salary Information:

- California Range: $65,000 - $110,000
- New York City/ Valhalla Range: $76,000 - $110,000
- Washington Range: $65,000 - $110,000

Job Duties:

- Research:
- Identify and analyze complex situations requiring research, and utilize appropriate sources for research
- Stay updated on relevant unclaimed property laws and regulations

- Unclaimed Property Compliance:
- Work with National UP team and more experienced team members to gather and manipulate data for annual escheat returns
- Use various software for data gathering and import data into FSI Track
- Reconcile data and respond to state notices
- Assist with due diligence and client payment processing
- Communicate with clients and team members

- Unclaimed Property Consulting:
- Draft memorandums and opinions on escheat issues
- Work with UP leadership to develop planning processes and address internal controls
- Represent clients in audits and voluntary disclosures
- Identify gift card planning opportunities and assist with implementation
- Assist with client interviews and data analysis
- Develop exposure quantification models and assist with client refund reviews
- Apply state tax consulting sub-specialties and confer with other professionals when necessary
- Stay updated on relevant trade organizations and participate in public speaking and networking events

- Unclaimed Property Related Software:
- Utilize various software for assigned tasks
- Maintain knowledge of different GL systems
- Participate in learning and implementing technology enhancements for unclaimed property group

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Statistics, required, OR Bachelor's degree in other focus area AND CPA certification, required
