A law firm is seeking a Consumer Finance Special Counsel for their Austin office. The candidate will serve in regulatory counseling and drafting primarily related to federal and state consumer lending laws, licensing requirements, and various acts such as the Truth in Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Credit Billing Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Electronic Funds Transfer Act, and Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act. Additionally, they will handle compliance management systems, money transmission, anti-money laundering, prudential banking regulations, Fin-Techs, cryptocurrency, and other digital assets, as well as unfair trade practice and consumer protection laws.

 

Duties:

  • Provide regulatory counseling and drafting related to federal and state consumer lending laws.
  • Handle licensing requirements and compliance management systems.
  • Interpret state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Negotiate and draft contracts.
  • Prepare consumer and/or commercial lending documents.

 

Requirements:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active member of the Bar in the jurisdiction(s) where admitted to practice.
  • 5+ years of relevant regulatory experience.
  • Solid/significant consumer finance experience.
  • Experience advising bank and non-bank financial institutions.
  • Experience with Fair Credit Reporting Act preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, prioritization, and critical-thinking skills.

 

Experience:

5+ years of relevant regulatory experience.
