A law firm is seeking a DSSP Advisory Associate Attorney with the following responsibilities and qualifications:

Job Overview: The DSSP Advisory Associate Attorney will focus on providing legal counsel related to data strategy and privacy compliance for clients. This role involves advising on privacy program development, assessing the impact of privacy legislation, drafting policy documents, and evaluating privacy risks in various business contexts.

Duties:

  • Assist the team in advising clients on the development of enterprise privacy programs.
  • Evaluate the operational impact of draft and newly enacted privacy legislation.
  • Draft consumer disclosures and internal policy documents related to privacy and data use.
  • Assess privacy and security risks in product design, operational use cases, and proposed business partnerships.
  • Provide support with incident response and transactional diligence when necessary.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of legal experience.
  • Experience providing legal advice on privacy and/or data strategy issues.
  • Familiarity with the California Consumer Privacy Act/California Privacy Rights Act and other US state privacy laws.
  • Knowledge of international privacy and security laws such as COPPA, GDPR, BIPA, GLBA, and VPPA is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to draft memos in business-friendly language.
  • Prior technology experience, such as software development or employment at a tech company, is helpful.
  • CIPP/US certification preferred.
  • Admission to the Illinois Bar.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • CIPP/US certification preferred.

Skills:

  • Legal analysis and research skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
