This role is not available for remote work, and will require the employee to be on-site in our Richmond, VA office. As an Associate General Counsel, Insurance Regulatory, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and counsel on a wide range of issues affecting Genworth's insurance companies, with a focus on its long term care insurance business. This role will involve being a strategic advisor on Insurance Holding Company System Act and corporate insurance regulatory matters, and working closely with the General Counsel, Long-Term Care. Key responsibilities and qualifications for this position include: Key Responsibilities: - Providing strategic advice and counsel to senior business, finance, legal, and other colleagues on Insurance Holding Company System Act and corporate insurance regulatory matters - Supporting contracting initiatives between insurance affiliate entities and external parties - Providing guidance on various issues affecting Genworth's long-term care insurance business, including new and existing insurance products, advertising and training materials review, complaint resolution, and operational and infrastructure support - Working closely with various teams across the organization such as Sourcing, Compliance, Operations, Consumer Affairs, Reinsurance, and Tax, as well as external parties such as regulators, attorneys, and reinsurance partners - Staying updated on new laws, regulations, and caselaw and advising internal clients on their impact - Identifying legal and regulatory risks and developing risk avoidance and mitigation strategies Qualifications: - JD degree from an accredited law school - Minimum of 10 years of experience as legal counsel within a corporate legal department, state department of insurance, or a quality law firm focused on insurance regulatory matters - Experience with Insurance Holding Company System Act and corporate insurance regulatory matters, preferably with responsibility for advising senior leadership and/or directing and overseeing the work of others on complicated, nuanced issues - Experience with long term care insurance and the applicable legal/regulatory environment - Experience drafting contracts and providing strategic advice about contracting initiatives - Demonstrated ability to learn and master new substantive topics quickly - Outstanding written and oral communication skills - Top-notch legal analytical skills - Proactive, creative problem-solving skills - Strong partnership with internal business clients and a solution-oriented focus on achieving business priorities and goals - Strong legal research and writing skills - Ability to simplify complex legal concepts - Ability to work with minimal daily supervision, while also knowing when a matter requires escalation - Proven ability to proactively manage client/management expectations - Ability to balance multiple priorities within compressed timeframes and work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment - Ability to identify and assess risks and make recommendations regarding risk mitigation - Strong organizational and time-management skills Employee Benefits & Well-Being: Genworth values its employees and is committed to making a difference in their lives.
