Signature of Applicant: Date: Application for Law Student Internship Page 4 of 5 HR Form Rev May 2023 Florida Attorney General's Internship Program: Gain Practical Legal Experience and Make a Difference The Florida Attorney General's Internship Program offers law students an opportunity to gain practical experience in a legal field while also making a meaningful impact. As the attorney for the State of Florida and a member of the Florida Cabinet, the Attorney General oversees the Consumer Protection Division, which is responsible for enforcing state and federal consumer protection laws against entities and individuals who engage in deceitful or unfair practices. The program primarily consists of law student interns and offers unpaid internships for academic credit or through participation in law school sponsored programs. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week for a prescribed period of time, as determined by their college or school. The number and locations of internship opportunities available each term vary based on agency need, but a summary page with brief descriptions of each unit is provided to assist students in selecting their preferred placement. To be considered for an internship, applicants must submit an application, resume, and a letter from their advisor or university stating their eligibility for academic credit or participation in a law school sponsored program. Official transcripts and letters of recommendation are also accepted but not required. 2nd and 3rd year law students may be asked to provide a writing sample during the interview process if selected. Application deadlines are as follows: - Summer: March 1 (deadline extended from January 31) - Fall: June 30 - Spring: September 30 Interested students are encouraged to apply early, as applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Internship opportunities are available in various divisions, including: - Antitrust - Capital Appeals - Civil Appeals - Civil Legal Services - Child Support Enforcement - Civil Legal Services - Ethics - Civil Legal Services - Revenue Litigation - Civil Litigation - Civil Litigation - Complex Litigation - Criminal Appeals - Consumer Protection - Cyber Fraud Unit - Executive Staff (Summer Only) - Medicaid Fraud Control - Civil Enforcement - Solicitor General - Statewide Prosecution Interns must also indicate their top three choices for internships in order of preference and select a location that corresponds with the chosen division. The internship locations include Daytona Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers, Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, St. Petersburg, Tallahassee, Tampa, and West Palm Beach. Eligibility for the program requires enrollment in an accredited ABA law school, and students must be able to intern for a minimum of 20 hours per week. The program also accepts law students who are not seeking academic credit but are participating in law school sponsored programs such as Pro Bono Programs, Law School sponsored clinics, and Law School Paid Stipend programs. In addition to gaining practical experience, interns have the opportunity to work on a variety of legal issues and cases, including investigations, litigation, and settlements that return money to consumers and require injunctive and statutory relief. They also have the chance to collaborate with other state attorneys general and state and federal agencies in joint enforcement efforts. The program offers a unique opportunity for law students to gain practical experience and make a difference in the legal field. If you are interested in interning with the Florida Attorney General's Office, be sure to submit your application before the deadline and indicate your top three choices for internships.
