A law firm is seeking a Patent Engineer or Agent for their Waukesha, WI office.

Job Overview:

The Patent Engineer/Agent will support patent prosecution and portfolio management, with a focus on video processing and video codecs. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Duties:

  • Conduct patent prosecution activities, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications, responding to office actions, and conducting examiner interviews
  • Manage patent portfolios, including assessing patentability, conducting freedom-to-operate analyses, and developing patent strategies
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to provide technical expertise and strategic advice on patent matters
  • Assist with patent analysis, opinions of counsel, and inter partes reviews (IPRs)
  • Stay current with developments in video processing, video codecs, virtual/augmented reality, and AI technologies
  • Adapt to evolving needs and priorities of the Firm and clients
  • Manage time and deadlines effectively for multiple ongoing projects
  • Foster teamwork and develop relationships at all levels of the Firm

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering
  • 2+ years of prosecution experience at a firm or in-house
  • Experience with video processing and video codecs
  • Familiarity with video coding standards
  • Graduate-level experience or advanced technical degree (preferred)
  • Involvement with patent analysis/opinions of counsel and IPRs (preferred)
  • Admission to the USPTO (preferred)
