Job Overview: A law firm based in New York City is seeking an experienced Administrative Law or landlord-tenant attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in real estate law, focusing on Administrative Law cases and landlord-tenant matters. They should possess excellent research, drafting, and litigation skills and a deep understanding of regulatory agreements and compliance requirements.

Job Details:

  • Research and draft legal documents, including Art 78, agency answers and replies, and due diligence reviews.
  • Perform administrative due diligence and provide advice on compliance with regulatory agreements with HPD, DHCR, HFA, and HUD.
  • Litigate Administrative Law cases before DHCR, the NYC Commission on Human Rights, NYS Division on Human Rights, OATH, Supreme Courts, or Housing Court.
  • Participate in marketing efforts, including drafting publications.
  • Adhere to all of the Firm’s policies and procedures.
  • Other duties are assigned on an as-needed basis.

Requirements:

  • High academic achievement with a law degree from an accredited . law school.
  • Active New York State Bar license and in good standing.
  • 3 years of real estate Administrative or landlord-tenant experience.
  • Must have deep knowledge of Rent Stabilization Law, Code, and affordable housing law.
  • Knowledge of handling Fair Housing and NYC Human Rights Law is a plus.
  • Capable of independently handling affordable housing matters with knowledge of voucher programs.
  • Strong negotiating skills and excellent analytical and research skills.
  • A portable book of business is a plus.
  • Interest in working with a collaborative team and flexible to handle all assigned tasks.
  • Computer savvy with excellent knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization skills, and takes enormous pride in their work.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and writing skills to communicate with a diverse group of attorneys and staff.
  • Ability to independently multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience practicing and litigating Administrative Law cases before DHCR, the NYS Division of Human Rights, the NYC Commission on Human Rights, and the Supreme Court.
  • Should be adept at defending against complex allegations of rent overcharge, succession, harassment, and discrimination.
  • Should be knowledgeable about deregulation due to substantial rehabilitation and capable of independently handling affordable housing matters with knowledge of voucher programs.
  • Should also have a desire to participate in marketing activities and be able to develop deep relationships with prospective and active clients.
