Job Title: Assistant County Attorney I (MPIA) - Non-Merit Salary Information: $78, - $98, Annually Location: Towson, MD Job Type: Non-Merit Job Number: 2-2024 LAW Department: LAW Opening Date: 02/05/2024 Job Description: - Under general supervision of the County Attorney, Deputy County Attorney or designee(s), assists with litigation, operational, transactional and administrative matters concerning Baltimore County Government. - Responsible for handling requests for information under the Maryland Public Information Act (MPIA). - Provides legal advice to the County Attorney on sensitive and high priority matters. - Drafts legal opinions for the County Attorney's signature. - Conducts legal research and provides advice on MPIA, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and privilege issues. - May be involved in prosecuting and/or defending civil appeals on behalf of Baltimore County government. - May be asked to conduct discovery, attend administrative proceedings, and negotiate on behalf of the County. - Prepares legal documents related to real estate transactions, contracts, and other legal matters. - Advises County officials and departments on legal issues. Qualifications: - Working knowledge of the MPIA or FOIA, as well as other applicable information access laws and judicial precedent. - Experience in analyzing records and evaluating what portions of information may be released or denied under the MPIA or FOIA. - Graduate of an ABA accredited law school. - Licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland. - Minimum of three (3) years of legal experience. - Licensed to practice in the United States District Court for Maryland and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
