Policy Analyst Duties: Policy Analyst (SB 5259) - In support of the mission and values of the Attorney General's Office (AGO) and under the general direction of the Senior Policy and Research Manager, establish, manage, and facilitate an advisory group to assist with the office's design, development, and implementation of a state-wide use of force data program. Work closely with a diverse array of stakeholders and on a tight timeline. Guide critical work in the realm of public safety and police use of force at the state level. Policy Analyst (Jail Standards Taskforce) - In support of the mission and values of the Attorney General's Office and under the general direction of the Senior Policy and Research Manager, facilitate a Task Force on Jail Standards, conduct research, and obtain stakeholder views to support the work of the Task Force, and draft a report for the legislature by June 30, 2023. Leverage the expertise of and engage in an unbiased manner with a variety of external and internal stakeholders, including jail representatives, treatment providers, victims' advocates, inmate advocates, organizations representing jail employees, prosecutors, defense attorneys, law enforcement, court professionals, people with lived experience, community organizations, legislators, and AGO attorneys and staff. Collect, organize, and synthesize an array of information about jails across Washington, including current data on and standards for conditions, operations, inspections, and oversight. Policy Analyst (HB 1310) - Engage with and obtain input from community stakeholders on the draft policies. Work closely with a diverse array of stakeholders, keep track of feedback from various sources, and clearly synthesize the information. Working with other AGO staff and consultants, revise the model policies to incorporate stakeholder feedback, to the extent feasible. Have familiarity with public policy issues surrounding law enforcement use of force, communicating in an open, respectful and unbiased manner, relationship building, maintaining accurate, detailed notes, and organizing and synthesizing information across many stakeholder meetings.

Qualification and Experience Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree in public policy, law, political science, criminal justice, government, economics, or related field. Or, 5+ years of relevant work experience in policy research and development, legislative analysis and advocacy, the criminal justice system, report drafting, project management racial equity, community outreach, stakeholder engagement, focus groups, managing public comments, or meeting facilitation.
