A law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney for its thriving insurance coverage practice based in its Chicago office, with cases throughout the Midwest.

Job Overview:

  • Assist in managing a thriving insurance coverage practice.
  • Oversight of junior associates on assigned files.
  • Actively involved in the defense and prosecution of coverage matters from case inception through trial.
  • Requires an established understanding of first-party insurance coverage, especially property insurance.

Duties:

  • Regularly conduct 30(b)(6) depositions and depositions of insureds, public adjusters, engineers, and building contractors.
  • Conduct examinations under oath and conduct ancillary legal research.
  • Author coverage opinions for claims adjusting personnel and in-house counsel.
  • Defense of coverage and extracontractual liability matters in state and federal courts.
  • Prosecution of declaratory judgment matters on issues of insurance coverage.
  • Oversight and advice to claims personnel and in-house counsel on property insurance appraisals.

Requirements:

  • Licensure in the State of Illinois and the . District Court for the Northern District of Illinois or other applicable federal district court.
  • 2+ years of experience in insurance coverage litigation.
  • 5 years of applicable first-party coverage experience.
  • Strong organization and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to supervise junior associates, manage files, and report directly to clients.
  • Ability to provide writing samples, including applicable deposition transcripts and motions.

Education & Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensure to practice law in the State of Illinois.

Skills:

  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and software.
