# Senior Counsel, Product Legal

## Job Summary

Coinbase is looking for an experienced Senior Counsel to join our Consumer Legal team and provide strategic advice to our product teams. Reporting to our Product Legal Lead for the Developer group, this is a unique opportunity to work on the frontlines of the initiatives that will help us become a crypto-first economy and work towards our mission of creating an open financial system and bringing about more economic freedom in the world.

## Job Responsibilities

The Senior Counsel will be responsible for:

* Joining and contributing to a best-in-class crypto product legal team, embedded with our Developer business.
* Working hand-in-hand in the day-to-day operations of Coinbase product teams, providing legal, business and strategic advice.
* Providing full product life-cycle counseling, from ideation and development to launch, operation and sunset.
* Keeping things legal globally, with a focus spanning . domestic as well as international issues.
* Identifying issues that may fall outside their expertise, driving resolution by partnering with other members of the Coinbase legal team and with outside counsel.
* Working cross-functionally with different key colleagues, including Compliance, Communications, Finance, Security, Data Analytics, and more.
* Responding promptly to a wide range of sophisticated legal requests and coordinating closely with Legal department colleagues to ensure the swift delivery of thoughtful, practical advice.
* Being the legal owner for their product and practice area, seizing the initiative to engage with teams, seeking out additional relevant information to the task at hand, and providing great legal counsel for the issues at hand and those seen around the corner.
* Operating in a fast paced, demanding environment and quickly adjusting to meet leadership’s needs.
* Recognizing priority initiatives and effectively managing their clients and their advice to scale their advice and provide the right level of guidance for the request at hand.

## Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

* A .
* Experience counseling product teams in launching technology products and a clear understanding of the legal underpinnings supporting these products.
* A strong interest in digital currency, blockchain technology, and innovative constructs pioneered by decentralized applications, web3, and defi.
* Familiarity with major global laws, regulations, and agencies associated with payments/financial services, internet technology, and crypto, including money transmission laws, NYDFS Bitlicense, banking regulations, e-money issuance, securities regulation, BSA, CDA Section 230, CFPB, CFTC, FTC Section 5 and UDAAP, GDPR, etc.
* Proven problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent legal judgment with analytic rigor, prudential risk assessment, and a balance of realizable creativity and pragmatism.
* Comfort with risk-adjusted thinking, and the ability to understand when interpretive flexibility is warranted.
* A team-oriented and collaborative approach, bringing cross-departmental colleagues to the table, and building their practice to enable their clients to successfully build and launch crypto products at Coinbase.

Nice to haves:

* Experience with KYC/IDV services and regulations
* Experience with international crypto regulations
* Technical backend infra/engineering experience or exposure.

## Salary

The target annual salary for the Senior Counsel, Product Legal position can range from $210,375 to $247,500 USD. Full time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
