Position Summary:

- Seeking a strategic and creative Tax Manager with experience in Unclaimed Property Tax and State and Local Tax (SALT).

The Team:

- Deloitte's Multistate Tax Services (MTS) group is the largest State and Local Tax (SALT) practice in the United States.
- Team includes former state tax auditors and administrators, industry personnel, tax practitioners, accounting specialists, and technology personnel.
- Significant experience with the requirements and nuances of jurisdictions in all 50 states.
- Services include state income and franchise tax, indirect tax, business restructuring, credits and incentives, sales and use tax outsourcing, excise tax, property tax, state strategic tax review, and state tax controversy.

What You'll Do:

- Provide tax consulting and compliance services to a diverse client base in a variety of industry sectors.
- Work directly with clients, manage tax engagement team, have access to specialists, and be supported by firm leadership.
- Assess state and local tax burden and recommend solutions that align with business objectives.
- Help clients comply with complex laws and requirements related to uncashed payroll checks, aged accounts receivable credits, and other types of abandoned and unclaimed property.
- Assist multi-state companies with state unclaimed property matters, including audit defense, voluntary compliance, annual reporting, developing policies and procedures, and consulting.
- Review unclaimed property compliance processes and make recommendations for improvement.
- Assist Deloitte audit teams with review and analysis of unclaimed property reserves.
- Assist multi-state companies with unclaimed property audits, including preparing clients for discussions with auditors, reviewing document requests, reviewing audit assessments, and representing the client at meetings.
- Research and draft technical memoranda regarding unclaimed property compliance rules.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop staff.

Qualifications:

Required:

- Ability to work in a hybrid model requiring in-person co-location 2-3 days per week.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in state and local tax with a focus on Unclaimed Property tax.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- One of the following accreditations: Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office, licensed attorney, enrolled agent, or CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner).
- Ability to travel up to 10% based on work, clients, and industries/sectors served.

Preferred:

- Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM.
- Demonstrable tax knowledge across a wide range of state and local tax areas.
- Previous consulting experience at a large accounting or law firm.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Advanced knowledge of OneSource, GoSystems, or similar tax software.

Salary Information:

- Wage range takes into account factors such as skill sets, experience, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
- Estimate of current range is $95,900 to $203,060.
