About Housing Unit:

- Preserves affordable housing for Brooklyn's low-income communities
- Represents low-income tenants in eviction proceedings
- Collaborates with community-based organizations
- Engages in affirmative litigation to challenge abusive and discriminatory behaviors that displace low-income families and eliminate affordable housing
- Partners with Human Resources Administration (HRA) to launch and build a unit to support Right to Counsel
- Provides zealous legal representation to tenants facing eviction in Housing Court and administrative proceedings
- Preserves housing subsidies and public benefits for clients through individual representation and cutting-edge litigation
- Offers advice and community education to tenants through legal clinics and Know Your Rights trainings

Role and Responsibilities:

- Seeking detail-oriented interns committed to public service
- Assist with litigation and advocacy projects under attorney supervision
- Projects may include Right to Counsel intake and advocacy, legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, and public benefits and rent subsidies advocacy
- Involves speaking on record in court and administrative proceedings in certain circumstances
- Includes frequent attendance in housing court and client meetings at office in downtown Brooklyn
- Welcomes 2Ls interested in exploring Right to Counsel practice as post-graduate career
