Internship Opportunities at Idaho Legal Aid Services, Inc. Welcome to Idaho Legal Aid Services, Inc., where we are committed to providing internship opportunities for law students and undergraduates. We are currently seeking interns for our 1L, 2L, and 3L programs in select offices. Our interns have the chance to work with experienced staff attorneys on a variety of legal areas, including housing, family and domestic violence, consumer, public benefits, guardianships, wills and trusts, elder, and Indian law. We offer a challenging and rewarding experience, where interns will have the opportunity to take on substantial responsibilities and make a real impact in the community. Position Description and Compensation Our interns will work closely with our staff attorneys on legal research projects and assist with cases. This includes conducting client interviews, interviewing witnesses, preparing for trials, researching and writing briefs and memorandums, and drafting complaints and other legal documents. Administrative tasks such as filing and copying may also be assigned. This is an unpaid position, but credit is available for those who are eligible. The time commitment for the internship will vary based on the student's school requirements, but for a summer internship, at least 15 hours per week for 8 weeks is required. Qualifications and Expectations To be eligible for our internship program, 1L applicants must have completed their first year of law school, while 2L and 3L applicants may be in any semester of study. We are looking for individuals who have a strong interest in working with the low-income community and addressing poverty law issues. Our interns should be self-motivated, possess a strong sense of justice, exhibit professionalism, be able to work under deadlines, and have excellent interpersonal and legal writing skills. We also welcome those who are interested in improving their writing abilities.
