Legal Services of Northern Virginia is seeking a full-time Bankruptcy and Tax Staff Attorney to join our team. - Qualifications: Must be licensed with the Virginia State Bar or eligible to take Virginia Bar Exam, become a member of the United States District Court for the Eastern/Western District of Virginia, United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern/Western District of Virginia, and the United States Tax Court, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, obtain annual IRS tax preparation certification, bilingual ability preferred, prior bankruptcy or tax experience or participation in law school LITC or Bankruptcy Clinic preferred
- Essential Functions: Screen applicants for eligibility for bankruptcy representation, prepare and file bankruptcy petitions and represent clients in court, evaluate clients for potential discharge of federal student loans, represent clients in tax controversy matters, assist with legal outreach and community legal education projects, engage in advocacy initiatives to further the core mission of the LITC program, assist with grant reporting initiatives
